Route Maps from Bentota to Colombo Airport (CMB)
Understanding the route reduces anxiety. There are two primary ways to drive from Bentota to Colombo Airport. We always recommend the Southern Expressway (E01) for speed and comfort, but we also show the coastal alternative.
Option 1: Expressway Route (Fastest & Most Common) – 115 km, 2.5 hours
Route Map Steps:
- Start from your Bentota hotel or residence.
- Drive north on Galle Road (A2) for approximately 10 km to the Bentota Expressway Entrance at Welipenna.
- Enter the Southern Expressway (E01) towards Colombo.
- Continue on E01 for about 85 km, passing Dodangoda, Kottawa, and Makumbura.
- Exit at Kadawatha interchange (or continue to Peliyagoda if preferred).
- Merge onto the Colombo – Katunayake Expressway (E03).
- Follow E03 directly to Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB).
Toll cost: Approximately LKR 650–850 (included in our price).
Option 2: Coastal Road (A2) – 125 km, 3.5+ hours (Not recommended)
This route goes through Kalutara, Panadura, Mount Lavinia, and Colombo city – heavy traffic, slower speeds, and many traffic lights. Only used if expressway is closed due to maintenance.
Best Time to Leave Bentota for Colombo Airport
Traffic around Colombo can be unpredictable. We recommend:
- Flights before 10 AM → Pickup at 4:30 AM – 5:00 AM from Bentota.
- Flights 10 AM – 2 PM → Pickup at 7:00 AM (avoid morning rush near Colombo).
- Flights 2 PM – 8 PM → Pickup at 10:30 AM.
- Flights after 8 PM → Pickup at 4:00 PM (to avoid evening traffic in Kadawatha).
Our drivers monitor real-time traffic using Google Maps and Waze. If there’s an accident on the expressway, they will switch to the coastal route (A2) automatically.
